Monthly Fun Run & Gathering

Always on the first Saturday of the month.

Join the fun on our next Fun Run - March 3, 2018

The Classic Raceboat Association (CRA) is a Tavares, Florida based non-profit organization formed to organize, promote and run both fun-runs and vintage regattas on our Florida Vintage Race Boat Circuit. These are vintage and classic race boats from the early 1900ís to the 1980ís. It is also interesting to note that many CRA members do not own vintage race boats but join for the social activities, especially all the fun at our regattas and our Monthly Fun Run & Gathering. Our boating season is year round down here in sunny, warm Florida and all boat types are welcomed. So please come join us for all the fun and adventure !!!

On March 3rd, always the first Saturday of the month, our local CRA group will be launching our boats at the Gilbert Park ramp in Mount Dora for our next Monthly Fun Run & Gathering. This will be a full day on the flat, fresh water of the beautiful Harris Chain of Lakes, including a lunch social. Even without a boat, please join us for lunch or the huge gathering later in the afternoon with lots of banter and a regatta update. This is also the feeding ground for the army of volunteers required for our Tavares ACBS boat shows and CRA Regattas.

Launching ceremonies begin at 9 AM and then we leave at 10 AM to cruise all over the beautiful Harris Chain of Lakes, including the newly cleared/dredged Dora Canal. At noon we will stop for lunch at the Lake Harris Hideaway or JD Boondocks. They both have new docks and enlarged outdoor seating areas, with lots of food and grog.

After lunch we will head out again to enjoy the warm Florida sun and the flat water. After a full day on the water, we will return to Gilbert Park in Mount Dora and pull our boats safely back onto trailers. Then it's off to our new CRA Clubhouse on Lakeshore drive for lots of cold beer and pizza. What fun, another great day on the water with good friends and beautiful vintage and classic race boats, with lots of food, grog and happy wind burned faces. All boat types are welcomed, come join all the fun.

All boat types are welcomed to join us - pontoon boats gotta keep up with the pack !!!

As usual, the first to arrive at Gilbert Park in Mount Dora was Howie Benns with his beautiful Chris Craft Utility that he restored. Then Mark, Gwen and Vann Elan arrived with their beautiful classic 21 foot Donzi. They are the newest of our Classic Race Boat Association and will be running their Donzi at our Tavares Spring Thunder Regatta in March. Then best buddies John Taggart and Bill Burgess arrived with John's 1930 Dodge Runabout. John has owned and maintained this rare Dodge Runabout since he was a small boy. Bill John and Gerri Prusko filled out the fleet with their 1946 Garwood Speedster that Bill has owned and maintained for the past 35 years.

After our launching ceremonies, we headed out on beautiful Lade Dora, through the absolutely stunning Dora Canal, onto Lake Eustis, through the Dead River Canal and onto Lake Harris. Then we pulled into the docks at the renovated lake Harris Hideaway for lunch. After lunch, we took a leisurely ride back to the Gilbert Park Launch Ramp. We all made it back safe and sound with no breakdowns, it was a good day on the water !!!
