After years of wanting to make the annual Roar & Soar vintage and classic race boat event and years of excuses, we made the trek south to sunny and warm Florida this year for our second time. The weather was sunny and warm, the water was flat and the vintage race boats were beautiful and fast. We also met Kermit Weeks again and enjoyed his fantastic living museum of vintage aircraft. We had a great time and a great vacation. This is one vintage event that is not to be missed!!!

As expected, the boat count was well over 70 vintage and classic race boats again this year running some pretty hot laps. Some of the hottest vintage aircraft in the world were also roaring into the skies throughout the day, along with giant scale radio controlled aircraft, powered paragliders and hang glider pilots.

We took well over 800 pictures and videos on Saturday and Sunday and Jack Lowe was also down here taking pictures and videos, so there will be full coverage posted during the next several weeks. Please check back here often and follow our progress, as we edit and post our Recap & Photos !!!

Many thanks to Marty & Claire Ferry, Mike Yobe, Dick Whyte, and the entire CRA crew for another fantastic vintage event. We had a great time and now Roar & Soar in on our annual schedule, our NH Navy will return for Roar & Soar 2012!!!

On Friday, November 11th, the fun began !!!

The first impression for participants at any vintage event is the required registration process, where forms are filled out, releases are signed and wristbands are issued. Registration at Soar & Soar began bright and early on Friday morning with Marty & Claire Ferry and their crew at the registration tent. They went out of their way to make us feel welcomed as we filled out the dreaded paperwork, and they actually made the process enjoyable - thank you Marty & Claire!

And the vintage and classic race boats started to arrive....

And then the real fun began on Saturday morning with the CRA required drivers meeting, complete with roll call, introductions, pit and course layouts, and safety rules. We do have fun running our vintage and classic race boats in the warm Florida sun, and through these CRA sanctioned regattas we also run safely and the public gets a chance to see the rich history of powerboat racing on a growing Florida Winter Vintage Circuit.

Then it was time to get them wet, go fast, turn left, burn gas and have fun !!!

Take another wild skiff ride

Terry Fiest got a personal lesson from Tom D'Eath on how to drive a vintage hydroplane. He climbed into Shockwave and trailer fired the small block Chevy racing motor. Lots of noise and lots of smiles, and then Terry went out and ran some pretty hot laps - his very first time driving a vintage hydroplane at speed !!!

Then we continued to run heats of magnificent vintage and classic race boats all day Sunday.
